Numerus fixus programmes
As from study year 2017-2018, DUO will not execute a lottery-based procedure anymore. Educational institutions will select their own students if the number of applications exceeds the number of places available. This is called decentralised selection. Not only the average score on your final list of grades is relevant anymore. Your motivation, personality and previous scores at high school may be taken into account as well. The educational institutions establish the criteria for the decentralised selection themselves. This will increase the chance of putting the right student in the right place.
|DUO cannot answer questions about the selection procedures and placements. For more information about numerus fixus programmes, please contact the university or institution for higher vocational education (HBO).|
The so-called ‘ministerplaatsen’ for students from Aruba, Sint-Maarten, Curaçao and the Caribbean Netherlands will also be abolished. The only way to be admitted to a degree programme will be through the decentralised selection.
No more than 2 selection programmes
Per study year you can apply for no more than 2 degree programmes with a decentralised selection. You may apply for the same programme with 2 different educational institutions, with these exceptions: medicine, dentistry, dental hygiene and physiotherapy. For these programmes you may only apply for 1 institution, because the number of applicants always exceeds the number of places available.
How often can you take part?
It differs per degree programme and educational institution how often (with a maximum of 3 times) you are allowed to participate in the selection procedure. Participation in the selection procedure before the academic year 2017-2018 counts as an attempt as well.
Apply for the study year 2017-2018
You can apply in Studielink from the 1st of October 2016.
The deadline for applying is 15 January 2017. After that, the educational institutions will start their selection procedures. No selection will take place if there are fewer applications than places available. In this case, you are entitled to participate in a study check.
Taking part from abroad
Would you like to take part in the selection procedure while you are abroad? Please contact the educational institution about the possibilities.
The results of the decentralised selection will be announced on 15 April 2017. You will receive the results in Studielink.
