Overview
A performance grant provision ('voorziening prestatiebeurs') is an exception to the rules of the performance grant. To find out whether you qualify for a performance grant, or for details of the performance grant, visit Student finance.
If you are unable to complete your studies on time due to special circumstances, or if you have to withdraw entirely from your study programme, it may be possible to make an exception to the rules of the performance grant. There are strict legal conditions attached to this ‘performance grant provision’.
Student counsellor or study advisor
Notify your study programme as soon as possible if you fall behind with your studies. Did you switch programmes? Please contact the programme you were taking when the delay occurred. If you are studying at university or HBO (higher vocational studies), contact the student counsellor (‘studentendecaan’). MBO (secondary vocational education) students should contact their study advisor. The counsellor or advisor can help you to limit or catch up on any study delay.
Your student counsellor or study advisor can only apply for a performance grant provision on your behalf in exceptional situations. The student counsellor or study advisor and DUO will assess whether you meet the necessary criteria. You are not entitled to a performance grant provision if you fell behind with your studies by your own volition, or as a result of exam resits or internship.
Wajong
Only if you are receiving Wajong (young disabled persons benefit), you can apply for the performance grant provision yourself, without the involvement of a student counsellor or study advisor.
Various provisions
In addition to the performance grant provision when receiving Wajong, the following performance grant provisions are possible:
- extension of performance grant
- extension of diploma period
- conversion of performance grant into a gift
- new entitlement to student financing
Studying with a disability
Are you eligible for student finance and able to study? But are you unable to work beside your studies due to your disability? If so, you can apply for ‘studietoeslag’ (study benefit) with your municipality. You are not eligible for a study allowance if you already receive Wajong (young disabled persons benefit).
