Your father or mother is deceased

You don’t need to report the death of your father or mother to DUO yourself. The municipality will do this for you.

Parent lived abroad

If your parent lived abroad, you will need to inform us of their death yourself. You can do so on 050-599 81 20 or cmpo@duo.nl. We will ask you for a death certificate.

What happens next

  • If you are requesting a supplementary grant for the first time, the municipality will inform us automatically that your parent has passed away. The income of your deceased parent will immediately be excluded.
  • Do you already have a supplementary grant? As soon as the municipality notifies us that your parent has passed away, we will recalculate your grant. If your parent passed away on the first of the month, we will do so starting on that same month. Otherwise we will recalculate your supplementary grant from the month after the death. From that month on, the income of your deceased parent will no longer be included.
  • Did you not apply for a supplementary grant? Be sure to apply for a supplementary grant within 6 months of the death of your father or mother. We will calculate if you are eligible for a supplementary grant. If you send an application we will automatically be notified by the municipality that your parent has died. Are you entitled to a supplementary grant? If your parent passed away on the first of the month, you will receive your supplementary grant retroactively from that month. Otherwise you will receive the supplementary grant starting the month after your parent’s death.
