Overview
You live in Aruba, CuraƧao, St Maarten or the Caribbean Netherlands and you have a student debt.
When and how to repay
- You do not have to start paying off your student debt immediately after completing your studies.
- Once your student finance ends, a preliminary phase begins on 1 January of the following year. This is a period of 2 years during which you do not have to make any repayments.
- You pay interest on your debt. The interest rate is fixed for a period of 5 years from the start of the preliminary phase.
- When the preliminary phase ends after 2 years, the repayment phase begins on 1 January. From this moment on, you are required to make repayments. The repayment phase lasts 15 or 35 years.
- You can choose how to repay your debt:
- local repayment in your own currency
- monthly instalments by manual bank transfer
- monthly instalments by direct debit
- annual payments.
Student loan from other organisations
Did you also receive financial assistance from your home country or island to finance your studies in the Netherlands, for example through a start-up grant from RCN, the Aruba loan, a loan from the SSC or Ministry of Education Sxm? The organisation concerned will contact you about the repayment process. You repay this part of your debt to that organisation.
