Students to whom the new student finance system applies, are allowed to earn an unlimited amount of additional income. Do you still fall within the old student finance system? Then an additional earnings threshold applies to you. If you exceed this threshold, you must temporarily stop your student finance and your student travel product.
How high is the additional earnings threshold?
In 2017, you can earn a maximum of € 14,215.75 in additional income (2016: € 13,989.13). This refers to your gross income or taxable wage, and you must keep accurate records of your earnings yourself.
What do you have to do?
- Log in to Mijn DUO to stop your student finance. Do this before the month in which your income will exceed the additional earnings threshold.
- Go to 'Mijn producten' and choose 'Studiefinanciering'.
- Click on 'Wijzig' and then choose 'Stopzetten studiefinanciering vanwege bijverdiensten'.
Do not forget to cancel your student travel product as well.
If you cannot log in to Mijn DUO
If you cannot log in to Mijn DUO, you can use the form Wijzigingen student to stop your student finance.
Consequences of too much income
If you exceed the additional earnings threshold without stopping your student finance and student travel product, you will have to repay the amount that you earned above the threshold. You will never have to repay more than the amount of the basic grant, supplementary grant and student travel product that you received in that year.
